First Polymer Training Skillnet (FPT) is Ireland’s dedicated upskilling network for the polymer industry, co-funded by Skillnet Ireland and member companies. It is promoted by Polymer Technology Ireland (Ibec) and was established in 1999. Based in Athlone, it offers accredited technical courses—covering injection moulding, extrusion, part and mould design, maintenance, automation, lean practices, and more. With a cutting-edge facility housing full polymer processing equipment, FPT delivers tailored and subsidised training to polymer processors, including those in the medtech, manufacturing and engineering sectors. Its mission is to meet current and future industry skill needs via flexible, responsive programmes developed in collaboration with industry partners.
